M7.7: the agency's role
The mission of the Office
of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is to create and sustain
American leadership in the transition to a global clean energy economy. Its
vision is a strong and prosperous America powered by clean, affordable, and
secure energy. The some of the EERE’s strategic goals that can play a role in
improving environmental health include:
Increase the
generation of electric power from renewable sources through reducing the cost
of hydropower, solar, wind, wave, tidal, and geothermal power. This can help
reduce our dependence on fossil fuel as the source for electricity through
reducing the mining and production of coal and natural gas.
Enable the
integration of clean energy into a reliable, resilient, and efficient electricity
grid. The accomplishment of this goal mean that the EERE can help increase the
utilization of clean energy and make it into a reliable and stable source of
energy for the future.
Accelerate the
development and adoption of sustainable transportation technologies. The EERE
will make effort in increasing the adoption of clean vehicles in order to
improve engine efficiency, and reduce biofuels use and cost of biofuel and
hydrogen production. This is help improve air quality everywhere if more people
are driving clean vehicles and reduce the amount of global-warming gasses being
released into the atmosphere.
Hi Nha,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this educational post. I'm actually not aware about the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and its mission. I'm glad that there is a agency that is helping our dependence on fossil fuel. The more we burn fossil fuels, the more we contribute to global warming. It is important that they are finding alternatives. I like that they are developing and adopting sustainable transportation technologies. In San Francisco, I really like that we have electric hybrid buses because we are helping reduce the amount of greenhouse gases.
