M3.1 Biomonitoring
As I was going through the lab results, I’ve counted a total
of 20 potential health effects that can be caused by the 7 listed chemical
found in my blood and urine samples. I was in shock because there’s so many
potential negative health effects that I can get just from these 7 chemicals.
Who knows how many other chemicals I am exposed to and are in my body right now?
I shouldn’t have DDT let alone lead in my system. I never expected to be exposed
to lead because the chemical has been banned for decades. Also, these potential
health effects are severe and can lead to serious health complications in the
long-run through frequent exposures over time or even through temporary exposure.
After watching the video and reading the lab results, I’ve became really
worried about how my health will be in the next 10 years if I keep exposing
myself to these harmful chemicals. And this not only affect me but what about
my family, my friends, my little niece and nephew, and children that I might I have
in the future. Also, working and interacting with kids makes up a big part of
my job and knowing that the kids that I’ve seen and talked to can possibly have
been already exposed to these chemicals, I feel helpless and frustrated because
we live in one of the most developed and advanced countries in the world yet we
couldn’t protect our children from these toxic substances. I can’t even imagine
how their health in the long-run will be impacted by being exposed to so many
harmful chemicals at such a young age. What you don’t know in this case can
really hurt you in a big way.
Hi Nha,
ReplyDeleteYes, it's really shocking to know that there are seven chemicals in our body that can harm our health. You brought up an important point that the chemicals in your body will not only harm you but can also harm your family and you might pass it on your future kids. I feel disappointed that our government have failed to protect the people especially the children from these toxic chemicals. I hope the government ban the toxic chemicals and make stricter policies for manufacturers so they will not be able to sell products that contain toxic chemicals.

Hi Nha,
ReplyDeleteIt's very disturbing to see the number of chemicals in our body and that previously banned chemicals are still appearing in our bodies. It's even scarier to learn that many of these chemicals show up in higher concentrations in children. Stronger reform and education on preventative measures to reduce exposures are needed to avoid the negative effects of these toxins on the body.
Hi Nha,
ReplyDeleteIt is so scary! So many harmful exposures through a small list of chemicals is overwhelming and just makes me a little paranoid about every product I come in contact with. I think once the initial shock wears off we can really be advocates for reform on existing/new policies and laws.
